The Dominican Republic Pilot Project has grown out of nearly 20 years of work in the Dominican Republic. It began through an annual church mission trip, and has relied heavily on partnerships with local church congregations. The Iglesia Evangelica of Gaspar Hernandez has been the key partner in founding and maintaining the library.
The current library is used as a reading room, story center, and resource center. Many children use it as a space to do homework, and additional seminars and group meetings can also occur there. Rose and Nancy have helped to acquire over 3,000 books, all in Spanish, and mostly for children and teens. Local volunteers maintain the catalogue system, computers and other equipment, and help teachers and students make use of the resources. The library has recently been refurbished with new shelves, stucco and paint.
